Conference on Higher Education for the Development of Iraq in London

USPA NEWS - The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, in cooperation with the Iraqi Cultural Attaché in Britain, organized a conference entitled "Higher Education for the Development of Iraq" on 14 and 15 September 2018 in London
In the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al Issa, Minister of Children and Families Affairs of the British Ministry of Education, Nazem Zahawi, British Prime Minister, the British Trade Envoy in Iraq Baroness Emma Nicholson and Lord Mohamed Sheikh, as well as the presidents of the universities of Baghdad, Babylon, Mosul, Qadisiya, Fallujah, Mustansiriya, and technology. Inm addition to the presidents and deans of private university colleges. And academic, political, cultural and media personalities.
The Conference was opened with a speech by the Chairman of the Preparatory Committee HE Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom Dr Saleh Al-Tamimi who welcomed the Minister Al-Issa and the official British guests and the presidents of Iraqi and British universities and attending guests, stressing on the importance of holding this conference, which discusses support for development in Iraq through the outputs of higher education and depending on the scientific and research methods. HE the ambassador said that Iraq believes in participating in building the new Iraq. This image is reflected today by the participation of British university presidents, academics and British specialists with their Iraqi counterparts in developing practical proposals for the Iraqi government to move forward with development of Iraq. HE the ambassador stressed the need for the Iraqi economy to become a knowledge economy based on technology and science and develop the human capabilities of Iraq, which encourages innovation so that Iraq would become in the ranks of developed countries in the region and the world.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Issa, delivered a speech at the opening session in which he said that the development expected in Iraq must be led by institutions of higher education as it is able to provide the state system with proposals, ideas and strategic visions that enhance scientific consideration in estimating the needs of the country and generations through the knowledge and experience to deal with the future.
He also added that our universities are capable of making the required changes in the management of state institutions because they are open to their counterparts all over the world to benefit from the experiences and provide positive climates for the exchange of ideas and experiences. He pointed out that the outputs of higher education are very important because they represent inputs to all state institutions. He also called for the Iraqi parliament to amend the legislation and the unification of the two ministries within the vision responsible for providing successful climates for education that has calculated results that would address the needs of the society and the state. Also speaking at the opening session were Minister Zahawi, Baroness Nicholson, Lord Mohamed Sheikh and Professor Robert Allison, Vice President of Loughborough University. In the presence of HE Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Issa, HE Dr Saleh Al-Tamimi an agreement was signed between the University of Technology and the University of Sussex to study the effects of desertification and its treatment using remote sensing technology.
